Our first stop was at Suganuma in the Gokayama region. There was a light dusting of
snow on top of the thatched roof homes when we arrived. It was quiet and beautiful,
especially along the Shokawa River. Our next stop was Shirakawago and we entered
an old large thatched-roof home that had once belonged to a prominent local family.
The home was over 200 years old and had lots of history. We spent a couple of hours
walking around the cute town and had grilled mochi (a local speciality). A fantastic trip.
